It wasn't enough that the prices for staple cereals like wheat, corn and rice were sky high because of the drought. The criminal speculation in the commodities market is causing prices to shoot up even higher... generating tremendous food inflation for entire nations, and causing millions to starve.

But most of the time, you don't even see it.

And I could go on and on about this.

Meanwhile, the Fed and the Government are both

Lying through their teeth that there's no food inflation!

But it's real... and it's so dangerous...

that Mexico's former president Felipe Calderon came inches away from practically begging the financial institutions to stop speculating in foods.

Here's what he said to CNBC in 2012: "Four years ago, more than 90 percent of the purchases of grains and food came from companies related to production or distribution of grains. Today, less than 60 percent are coming from those enterprises. More than 40 percent are operations related to financial institutions."

The irresponsible banks are making everyone's food more expensive - adding millions of Americans to the soup lines.

And that's when the real nightmare starts to unfold. That's when the 3rd horseman starts galloping towards the US... and his name is "Chaos".

You see, president Calderon has a good reason to panic. He knows that food prices are an almost perfect predictor of something no president wants in his country:

And he's afraid that the "tortilla riots" of 2007 will be back.

That's when more than 75,000 of the poorest Mexicans took to the streets, after the price of corn for tortillas went from 8 pesos to 10 pesos per kilo. Now that the drought is far worse than anything Mexico's seen in the last 50 years, mass riots seem certain.

But it's not just Mexico that rebelled against high food prices.

Take a look at this chart.

That's the global food price index... along with some of the most violent food riots in the last decade. Notice anything?

In 2008, as the food price index was 200, there were bread riots in 61 different countries from Haiti to Bangladesh.

In 2010, when a massive drought in Russia forced the country to halt wheat exports... millions of Arabs rebelled and created what we now know as "the Arab Spring".

And the bottom line is, whenever you have high food prices, you have mass social unrest, and people are overthrowing governments.

So what's this got to do with the US, and with YOU?

Everything.

Because lately, not just traditionally "poor" countries are rioting. More "civilized" places have been the theatre of massive public violence. Countries like Greece, the birthplace of democracy.

Or like Spain, where people are starting to raid supermarkets to get the food they need to survive.

And now it's coming here.

That's the forth horseman of the food apocalypse.

His name is "Destruction"

- and he's hitting right in the heart of America.

Without food, there's very little hope. You have to beg those who have it to share some with you. Or if you're really desperate... you'll have to just take it from them.

When you have no food, your options are drastically limited.

During the Great Depression, many children were forced to work in "labor farms"... and sometimes had to resort to prostitution just for a hot meal. Wives abandoned their husbands, hoping that it will be better on their own. Thousands of families fell apart... because they lost all hope of surviving together.

Yet when food is not a problem... everything falls into place.

Because there's almost nothing that food can't pay for, in a crisis situation. Car broke down and you need a new battery? Food can get you a brand new one from a desperate family.

Need someone to chop wood? In a depression there will be plenty of people willing to work for food.

When the unthinkable happens... roles in society are going to reverse. Being able to read fancy spreadsheets might be useful today... but in a crashing society, it will put you at the bottom of the food chain. Adaptability, strength, and the ability to feed yourself and others - this is what will get you to the top.

The bottom line is... if you want your family to survive...

You need your own food reserve. And you need it fast.

But where to start? Hunting and foraging might sound like a good idea. But people forget that thousands of others have made the exact same plan... and that game went almost extinct during the Great Depression.

Well this time, he was no longer bitching and moaning. And when over dinner John served some delicious fish with a nice stack of home grown vegetables... I couldn't help but think of the heat and the water restrictions.

So I asked him... "John, how many laws are we breaking by eating this?"

"Well... none, really" he said. "I'm hardly using any water... yet I've never had tastier vegetables. And you know what?

The fish you're eating... it comes from my backyard too!

"You're kidding me right?" I said. "There's hardly enough space in your backyard to have barbecue, let alone to grow fish. And come to think of it... how the heck do you "grow" fish in a backyard? John, you're not making fun of me are you?"

"Trust me, I'm not", John replied." And if you want to know my secret... I'm doing "Aquaponics", and you wouldn't believe just how amazing it is"

I wanted to know more, and John was happy to explain.

You see, the constant droughts in Australia are forcing people to be more "survival oriented" that most Americans.. even though many of them don't realize it.
